Blog About IIT JEE Pattern and Eligibilty for IIT JEE

Engineering aspirants and especially, IIT aspirants are in a dilemma on what to study and how to prepare for JEE 2014. Mitesh Rathi Classes, we specialise in this very field and keep a tab on the latest developments in the area. Here is a quick view of all that you need to know about JEE exam 2014.

Eligibility for IIT JEE 2014

·         Students must have passed Class XII examination in 2012 or 2013; or will be appearing for Class XII examination in 2014 will only be eligible for IIT JEE 2014
·         For JEE Main 2014, the date of birth* of students should fall on or after October 01, 1989.**
·         For IIT 2014 or JEE Advanced 2014 , students will need 60% marks in their 12th Board. SC/ST/PwD candidates will need 55% to be eligible for JEE Advance. However, students also need to be among the Top 1.5 lakh rank holders in JEE Main to appear for JEE Advanced 2014.
·         Distribution of 1.5 lakh students will be as follows:
o    Top 75,750 students from Common Merit List - (50.5%)
o    Top 40,500 students from Non-creamy layer of Other Backward Classes (OBC (NCL)) Merit List (27%)
o    Top 22, 500 students from SC Merit List (15%)
o    Top 11,250 students from ST Merit List (7.5%)
o    3% of seats for total candiates in each category are reserved for PwD candidates.
Date of birth recorded in University or Secondary Education Board certificate will be the only basis of consideration.
** In case, of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates, the relaxation of five years is given in the upper age limit. Hence, such candidates are eligible if their date of birth falls on or after October 01, 1984.
·         Maximum number of attempts allowed for JEE Main is three. For JEE Advanced, students can appear for a maximum of two times in consecutive years.
·         The decision on Top 20 percentile norm (where only students in Top 20 percentile in their respective board exams will be eligible for JEE Advanced) is yet to come.

After JEE 2013, many changes were to be introduced in JEE 2014. In the IIT new pattern 2014:
JEE Main
·         One paper for B.E./ B.Tech aspirants:  Equal weightage to Physics, Chemistry and  Mathermatics; 30 questions are expected from each subject)
·         One paper for B.Arch/ B.Planning aspirants: Will test Mathematics, Drawing and Aptitude of students
·         Type of questions: Objective, Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with four options and a single correct answer
·         Duration: 3 hours or 180 minutes
·         Negative Marking: For each incorrect answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted from the total marks scored. No deduction will be made for not answering a question.
JEE Advanced
Two papers with separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
·         Duration: 3 hours or 180 minutes each
·         Will test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of questions
·         To be conducted in offline mode only.
·         Type of Questions: JEE Advance 2013 had objective-type questions. From IIT JEE 2014, old subjective-type format of IIT JEE was to be implemented. Due to lack of resources, it is difficult to implement. IIT Bombay had suggested a mid-way - Students will not have multiple-choice questions but will not have to write long answers or solve problems step-by-step. They will just have to write the right answers for problems fill in the blanks or write very short or one-word answers. Final decision is yet to come.

  1. Thanks for your post. I’ve been thinking about writing a very comparable post over the last couple of weeks, I’ll probably keep it short and sweet and link to this instead if that's cool. Thanks! Recreational online dispensary Canada
