Engineering aspirants and
especially, IIT aspirants are in a dilemma on what to study and how to prepare
for JEE 2014. Mitesh Rathi Classes, we specialise in this very field and keep a

you need to know about JEE exam 2014.
·
Students
must have passed Class XII examination in 2012 or 2013; or will be appearing
for Class XII examination in 2014 will only be eligible for IIT JEE 2014
·
For JEE Main
2014, the date of birth* of students should fall on or
after October 01, 1989.**
·
For IIT 2014 or JEE Advanced 2014 , students will need 60%
marks in their 12th Board. SC/ST/PwD candidates will need 55%
to be eligible for JEE Advance. However, students also need to be among the Top
1.5 lakh rank holders in JEE Main to appear for JEE Advanced 2014.
·
Distribution
of 1.5 lakh students will be as follows:
o
Top
75,750 students from Common Merit List - (50.5%)
o
Top
40,500 students from Non-creamy layer of Other Backward Classes (OBC (NCL))
Merit List (27%)
o
Top 22,
500 students from SC Merit List (15%)
o
Top
11,250 students from ST Merit List (7.5%)
o
3% of
seats for total candiates in each category are reserved for PwD candidates.
* Date of birth recorded in University or
Secondary Education Board certificate will be the only basis of consideration.
** In case, of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST)
and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates, the relaxation of five years is
given in the upper age limit. Hence, such candidates are eligible if their date
of birth falls on or after October 01, 1984.

Maximum number of attempts allowed for JEE Main is three.
For JEE Advanced, students can appear for a maximum of two times in consecutive
years.
·
The
decision on Top 20 percentile
norm (where only students in Top 20 percentile in their
respective board exams will be eligible for JEE Advanced) is yet to come.
After JEE 2013, many changes were to be introduced in JEE 2014. In the IIT new pattern 2014:
JEE Main
·
One
paper for B.E./ B.Tech aspirants: Equal weightage to Physics, Chemistry
and Mathermatics; 30 questions are expected from each subject)
·
One
paper for B.Arch/ B.Planning aspirants: Will test Mathematics, Drawing and
Aptitude of students
·
Type of
questions: Objective, Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with four options and a
single correct answer
·
Duration:
3 hours or 180 minutes
·
Negative
Marking: For each incorrect answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted from the total
marks scored. No deduction will be made for not answering a question.
JEE Advanced
Two papers with separate
sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
·
Duration:
3 hours or 180 minutes each
·
Will
test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of questions
·
To be
conducted in offline mode only.
·
Type of
Questions: JEE Advance 2013 had objective-type questions. From IIT JEE 2014,
old subjective-type format of IIT JEE was to be implemented. Due to lack of
resources, it is difficult to implement. IIT Bombay had suggested a mid-way -
Students will not have multiple-choice questions but will not have to write
long answers or solve problems step-by-step. They will just have to write the
right answers for problems fill in the blanks or write very short or one-word answers.
Final decision is yet to come.
